Install and update
Use this page when installing Onnoir for the first time or moving to a newer beta. Install and update steps should be treated as data-safety steps because your library lives locally.
Before you start
Onnoir currently advertises macOS 12+ and Windows 10+ support. Use the official Download page rather than a copied link from a message or forum. Before updating an existing library, create and verify an encrypted .onbk backup from Settings.
Step-by-step
- Open Download.
- Pick the installer for your computer:
- macOS Apple Silicon for most Macs with M-series chips.
- macOS Intel for older Intel Macs.
- Windows x64 for the standard Windows installer.
- Download the file from the official Onnoir link.
- If a SHA-256 checksum is published for that exact file, compare it before installing.
- Quit Onnoir before replacing an installed copy.
- Open the new version and confirm your library still unlocks.
- After the update, create a fresh backup if you made important changes.
What to expect
Beta installers may trigger normal operating-system warnings for downloaded apps. Stop if the file did not come from the official Onnoir download host or if the artifact name/version does not match the website.
Checksum instructions only apply when Onnoir publishes checksums for the release. If no checksum is listed, do not use a checksum copied from an unofficial source.
Safety notes
Do not update if your only copy of important work is inside the app and you have not verified a recent .onbk backup. The backup is the way to restore the encrypted library if an update or local disk issue goes wrong.
Troubleshooting
If macOS or Windows blocks opening the app, confirm the download source first. If the app opens but the library does not, do not delete local data. Try the recovery key or restore flow described in Vault, passphrase, and recovery.
