Summary

Onnoir is a local-first desktop app. In the beta, notebook content is stored in a local encrypted vault on your device. You do not need an account to use the app, and Onnoir does not host or read your notebook content.

Anonymous diagnostics are optional. When enabled, they are used to improve reliability and are designed not to include private writing, local file details, recovery material, or vault identifiers.

Desktop app data

The app stores your library, settings, backups, snapshots, and exports on your device or in locations you choose through system dialogs. Your passphrase and recovery key are your responsibility. Onnoir cannot reset them through an account.

Onnoir stores a small diagnostics state file and local diagnostics log outside the encrypted vault so diagnostics can work before unlock on later launches. These local files are for app reliability and are not a copy of your vault content.

Anonymous diagnostics are optional. When enabled, Onnoir may send app version, platform, feature area, operation result, timing bucket, and crash or fault class to help improve reliability.

Diagnostics never include note text, capture text, search queries, file names, media names, local paths, recovery keys, passphrases, or vault identifiers.

Current crash reporting covers frontend errors and caught app faults. Native or minidump crash reporting is not included yet.

Manual update checks contact Onnoir's update endpoint only when you choose to check for updates.

Website data

onnoir.com uses privacy-friendly, cookieless aggregate website analytics. These analytics help us understand page views, visits, referrers, browsers, devices, countries, basic traffic trends, and performance signals.

Download buttons pass through an Onnoir redirect so we can count aggregate downloads by platform, version, country, referrer, and campaign source. These metrics help us understand which beta packages need testing and support.

If you join the update list, we collect the email address you provide so we can send product updates. You can unsubscribe from those messages at any time.

Backups and exports

Encrypted .onbk backups and Markdown exports are created at paths you select. If you move those files to another service, device, or cloud drive, that service's privacy practices apply to those copies.

Future online services

Optional services such as Sync or Publish may be offered later. They will be opt-in and will have service-specific terms before launch. We will not use private notebook content for advertising.

Retention

Website analytics, download metrics, and optional beta diagnostics are retained only as long as needed to operate, secure, and understand the beta. Email-list records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.

Your choices

You can use the desktop beta without creating an account. You can choose whether to check for updates, opt in to anonymous beta diagnostics, where to save backups and exports, and whether to join the update list. If you use a contact or bug report form, we collect the information you submit, such as your email address, message, topic, app version, platform, and diagnostic details you choose to include.

If you contact us for support or send files, logs, screenshots, or backups, we will use that material only to respond to your request and improve the beta. Do not send passphrases, recovery keys, full vaults, or private notebook text unless we explicitly agree on a safe support process.

Third-party services

Onnoir may use infrastructure providers, including Cloudflare, for the website, downloads, analytics, email delivery, and support. Onnoir uses PostHog for opt-in product telemetry and Sentry for opt-in frontend error, crash, and fault reporting. Those providers process limited data for the purposes described in this policy. Browser-style web analytics, autocapture, and session replay are not used for the desktop app.

If you move exports or backups to another cloud drive, backup service, or device, that service's privacy practices apply to those copies.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date.
