First notebook
A notebook is the simplest place to start. Create one, write a short page, and learn how to get back to it from the Shelf.
Before you start
Finish first launch and save your recovery key before creating work you care about. If this is your first session, also plan to make a verified backup after the notebook exists.
Step-by-step
- Open the Shelf.
- Use the new-notebook control or the empty-state action to create a notebook.
- Give it a plain name you will recognize later, such as
Journal,Research, orClient notes. - Open the notebook.
- Create or open the first chapter/page.
- Rename the chapter/page if the title is still generic.
- Write one short paragraph.
- Return to the Shelf and reopen the notebook to confirm you know the path back.
What to expect
The Shelf is the home for notebooks. A notebook holds chapters/pages. A chapter/page is where you write. Onnoir may use both words in places because the app presents notebooks as bound writing spaces while still storing individual pages inside them.
Safety notes
Do not use the welcome notebook as your only proof that the app is saving. Create your own notebook, write a test note, then create and verify a backup from Settings.
Troubleshooting
If you cannot find a notebook, check Shelf filters and Trash before assuming it is gone. If a newly written page looks stale, leave the editor open briefly, then navigate away and back after autosave has had time to run.
